How it Works

Now, you’ve come up to checking your website rankings. Most likely at this stage, you’ve already optimized your web pages, submitted them to the search engines and advanced on getting other sites linked to your site. You may also be just starting to work on these tasks. Either way – to evaluate your efforts, analyze the niche for your brand-new website or mark your web ranking progress, we recommend turning to the help of the Web CEO Ranking Checker.

Web CEO employs the most advanced techniques possible to make the ranking checker the safest in the industry. Turn on its faultless human emulation to check the ranking results, and do not worry about getting into problems with search engines. Use the search engine APIs as the ultimate solution to ensure maximum safety.

The Web CEO ranking tool checks site rankings on multiple search engines. If you run a report with hundreds of keywords you needn’t wait hours to see the results — they appear as your rankings are being checked in real-time.

Web CEO Ranking Checker is an easy-to-operate tool, even a less technical user can easily understand what must be done to start using it. The “My Rankings” tab comes first, so let’s begin our tour with that.

Set up the profile

When running the ranking report for the first time, you should set up a ranking profile. Select search engines, add keywords and set up scan rules.

1. Select Search Engines

Description: Selecting Search Engines is the first step in setting up a ranking profile.

1. Settings

If you are interested in specific searches, for example, in the UK, Australian or German search engines or in search engines providing results in a specific language, you can set Web CEO to easily check results on only these search engines groups.

Click the “Check” button to select search engines that will search among the web documents in a specific language or belonging to a certain country.  Another helpful feature is organizing the selected search engines into groups of “Favorite search engines” and using these groups across the Web CEO projects and profiles.

2. Settings

2. Add Keywords

Description: Adding keywords is the second step in setting up ranking profiles.

For more convenience, you can type in keywords or  import them from the contents of your site and any other site’s Meta Keyword tag by scanning the index and top-level pages. Keywords can also be imported from the Keyword Suggestion tool, be loaded from a file or pasted from the clipboard.

Keywords can be organized into groups and assigned a specific color to be used in the ranking report – this feature makes the report layout more structured and understandable.

3. Settings

3. Set Scan Rules

Description: The Ranking Checker can scan search engine results pages in different ways – you can make it scan more or fewer result pages, and include sponsored results or subdomains into the report. Use the default settings if you are not sure if you need these changes – the defaults are fine for typical tasks. If you want the report to include rankings of multiple domains for the same keywords, or sponsored results, then adjust settings to suit your specific needs.

Here you specify the number of search results or results pages to scan; select the corresponding checkboxes to include the sponsored results into the ranking count, and to check rankings on subdomains and different domains along with your main site.

4. Settings

When your ranking profile is set up, press “Start” and watch Web CEO check your rankings. Results immediately appear on the screen as each request is processed in real-time.

1. ‘My Rankings’ – Learn if search engines can find your site for your targeted words

Description: Web CEO shows the ranking results in a very simple format. If you have already run a ranking report, you can compare the current results with the Previous, the First and the Best results by clicking on the corresponding buttons above the report.

The ranking report is offered in four views. Select the one that gives you the best presentation of the data for your specific needs – Summary by SE, Summary by keyword, By SE or By keyword.

Description: Setting the predefined and custom filter can help refine the information available directly on the screen. For example, select the "In Top 10" filter to have only the top-10 ranked pages displayed, or the "Dropped" filter to see the pages that have disappeared from search results.

2. Drill down the position history

Description: Double-click on a page address in the main report to see the Position history for a Web page. It shows how page rankings change over time. The similar drill-down report is available for the Competition analysis. On the Competition analysis tab, double-click on a website address to get the information on a website’s position changes.

2. ‘Indexed pages’ – learn how many pages of your site are indexed by the search engines

Description: Press “Start” to watch Web CEO query search engines to get a list of website pages indexed by the selected search engines. Results are immediately displayed on the screen as each request is processed, in real-time. If you have previously checked your pages’ availability in search engine indices, you can compare the current result with the results in the Previous and the First check.

3. ‘Competitors’ rankings’ – see how well your competitors are ranked for your targeted words

Description: A website’s success is measured not only by its high rankings – it is critical to outrank competitors. Enter the URLs of a few competing websites and see how they stack up against your website. You will also see the number of pages competing on every keyword. The comparative ranking report has two views - By Search Engine and By Keyword. Select the one  preferred.

If you have already run the competition analysis mission, compare the current results with the Previous, the First and the Best results by clicking on the corresponding buttons above the report.

To make the results more obvious, use one of the 11 predefined filters or create new ones based on your criteria. Setting up filters for this report is similar to “My Rankings”.

Description: The report summarizes a sites overall visibility to search engines. The ‘Ranking Score’ report makes it easier to estimate progress over time, and to quickly compare your site’s visibility with competitor sites. The ‘Ranking Score’ report has five views - Summary, Score by Search Engine, Score by Keyword, Details by Search Engine, Details by Keyword. Select the view that preferred.

As before, comparison with the ‘Previous’, ‘First’ and ‘Best’ score is available.

6. ‘Site’s Snippets’ – see how your listings on the SERP look

Description: Each search result usually includes one or more short selections of the text that match user's query with search terms in boldface type. This report shows what snippets Web surfers see when they enter one of your search keywords in the search field.

Set up the Ranking Checker so as to not abuse search engines

Description: If you automate your site ranking checking with software, your IP address can be temporarily locked. Once your IP is detected, you won’t get access to that search engine’s services through the rest of the day.  The Web CEO Ranking Checker has many special features to prevent this. A different address of a proxy server can entered, and different user agents used in requests.  You can also use your IE explorer settings – cookies and languages to best emulate a browser search.

Safety and Accuracy

Description: In the “Human Emulation” section configure the Ranking Checker to imitate human search – the queries do not seem automated because the program starts with requesting the home page, and doesn’t send too many requests at a time. It suspends for random time intervals – similar to how people behave.

To make the similarity complete, it’s possible to set the program to request images, scripts, style sheets and other web page elements that are not typically requested by other software programs.
In the “Redirects” section configure the Ranking tool to deliver more accurate results by following redirects. Sometimes in results pages, search engine show a web address that is different form the destination URL. For example, search engines often hide the destination URL of a paid listing by providing only its ID in a visible URL.

Google API

The Google API (application programming interface) is a service giving software programs officially permitted access to Google. You can create a Google API account, get a key, and make requests to Google’s databases from Web CEO through the Google API. In this way, you do not violate Google’s TOS.

Take advantage of using the Web CEO Ranking Checker (available for FREE!). Acting as a human, it examines search engine results pages and builds real-time reports.
You can get the same accurate results as if you were tracking your rankings by hand, but these statistics are far clearer and contained in a document that is easy ot get and maintain. Web CEO has many preset views and filters which allow quick access to specific information needed for you to be in the know for your current visibility to search engines and also compare this to past results.
